Well, finally - here is my completed icon photo. It was finished last month - just needs to be blessed. It was an amazing experience, and a chance to meet some wonderful women (and 1 man!) who helped make the class very rich indeed.

God the Terrible Judge

I blogged about my deep-down misconceptions of who God is. These paintings represent how part of me saw (sees?) God as a lone and watchful being, always on the prowl for sins of comission and omission. Even the Creation picture seems somewhat remote. How could I ever know if I was really measuring up? One apple and its all over. Bad theology here, and part of what I have to unravel and rework in my life. (As an aside - instead of being shown with Jesus and the Spirit, I wonder why it often looks like God is running a Day Care? No wonder he's so short-tempered).

Here are a few pictures of my icon in progress. I'll try to remember to photograph the stages as they occur. It is an amazing experience! I never knew it would be so meaningful. It has definitely become an important part of my spiritual journey.

By the way, my icon is called "The Guardian Angel". My instructor chose this icon for me, which I believe was meant to be. I missed the first class due to my fateful trip to Edmonton in January. At the same time I was to be in my first class, I was actually rolling into the ditch in a van. The next week, without knowing about the accident, my instructor suggested the Guardian Angel. Good choice! By the way, the angel is not holding an actual baby - the baby represents my soul.
